Give It Away

A bell is no bell
’til you ring it,

A song is no song
’til you sing it,

And love in your heart
Wasn’t put there to stay –

Love isn’t love
‘Til you give it away.”

Oh sixteen, the age of the hopeless romantic,

full of feelings and emotions, dreams and desires

not knowing, not fearing, only hoping beyond hope

that true love will be ours.

We want, we need, and then we are hurt,

and God knows that the hurt teaches us

that to love is to receive, to share, to be a part of,

and hopefully we become a grown up person.

Love is love when you give it away.

Love is helping someone love themselves.
